The D4

Trailblazing Auckland rockers The D4 have announced a North Island tour starting this February, following previous news they’re reuniting after ten years to perform at Auckland City Limits 2018. The legendary group will be playing one of the final shows at Auckland’s Kings Arms Tavern, as well as dates in Raglan, Hamilton, Helensville and Gisborne.

Rising from the ashes of North Shore punk band Nothing At All! in the late nineties, the group set the world on fire with anthemic hits ‘Party’, ‘Get Loose’ and ‘Sake Bomb’. They’ve performed alongside peers The Hellacopters, Dead Moon, Guitar Wolf, The Faceful, and The Datsuns, and even scored a slot on Late Show with David Letterman. Lovers of kick-ass garage rock should not think twice, here’s the info…

Undertheradar proudly presents…

Punk It Up 2018

Punk It Up 2018

TICKETS
From UTR.co.nz

Continuing the tradition of memorable gigs at The Kings Arms, Punk It Up returns to the KA on Saturday Feb 17 for the real "last ever punk show" before the venue takes its rightful place in the history of Auckland live music venues. With so much music crammed into one night, it's no wonder doors are opening earlier than normal at 7:00 PM.

It's definitely the real "Final Punk Show At The Kings Arms"

FEATURING Proud Scum (first show in a decade!), The Johnnys (first NZ show in nearly 30 years!), Flesh D-Vice (also first show in bloody ages), Wolfpack (from Aus), bankRobbers (with very special guests), MISHAP, The Rocket Jocks, DJs Miss Dom, Phil A, and Dubhead,  and an After Party (with Guest DJs) until the wee small hours, hosted by bFM's Gang Of Four show.... whew, talk about bang for your buck!

It’s a total venue takeover - bands in the main bar, the front bar hosting stalls selling heaps of punk paraphernalia from the bands performing (and a bunch of artists that aren’t), just because we decide when it's "Over".

With musical acts performing a mixture of new material and old classics, the whole night is set to encourage community around the punk aesthetic, and expose you to some intelligent and positive alternative thinking, as well as a healthy dose of fast noisy punk rock’n’roll, and of course, seeing The Kings Arms off in style with the real "final punk show"

Alex Cameron w/ Roy Molloy, and Jack Ladder

To celebrate the release of his critically acclaimed sophomore LP Forced Witness, Alex Cameron is teaming up with Eccles Entertainment, Under The Radar, 95bFM and Radio Active.FM to hold two very special shows in Auckland and Wellington this coming February.

In the last 18 months, Cameron has spent the majority of his time on the road in the Northern Hemisphere touring with the likes of Angel Olsen, Whitney and The Killers and garnering high praise at each turn and in turn, earning himself and Roy a hugely dedicated following who hang from their every word.

His second LP Forced Witness sees Cameron at his most visceral, cutting best. With Forced Witness, Cameron’s solution to the difficulties we face is a danceable and dangerous earnestness, a sense of honesty that heals and relieves even as it cleaves us or makes us laugh in self-defence. He’s offering portraits of misfits’ views of the world, presented without illusion.

“Forced Witness transcends its surface-level smarm to become a biting piece of commentary” – Pitchfork

“It's got more than enough power to carry you through the emotions it elicits” – The Fader

Recorded across Europe and America, and produced by Cameron along with Foxygen’s Jonathan Rado, these tracks at first seem shamelessly entertaining, the driving rhythms and rousing melodies embellished at every turn by Molloy’s warm horn-work.

Badbadnotgood

Tickets $54.90 from justtheticket.co.nz

Auckland, you lucky things. Extraordinary genre-fusing Canadian band BADBADNOTGOOD will take their only break from the St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival tour to play The Kings Arms on January 28.

Since coming together as a three-piece at music school in 2011, BADBADNOTGOOD have made the music world take notice of their instrumentals that melded jazz virtuosity with hip hop source materials. Early champions included acclaimed BBC broadcaster Gilles Peterson and Tyler The Creator. Their list of collaborators include the likes of Frank Ocean, Earl Sweatshirt, Ghostface Killah and RZA.

Now a four-piece, BADBADNOTGOOD's 2016 effort IV broadened into RnB and included guest vocalists including KAYTRANADA, Future Islands’ Samuel T Herring and Mick Jenkins for the first time to stunning effect.

“Fiery hip-hop instrumentals, creamy rhythm and blues balladry and classic lounge vibes are explored with equal excitement--and pulled off with equal panache.” - The Skinny

The Guardian calls BADBADNOTGOOD “innovative and imaginative”.
